In a country with vast and varying geographies, from the Nevada Desert, the Rockies, and the Great Plains, to the East and West Coast cities, the possibilities are virtually endless. As the USA is largely designed around travelling by car, you couldn't pick a better mode of transport for seeing everything this stunning country has to offer.

It’s your choice: Where to go in the USA

There is so much to choose from when you rent a car in the USA, with a multitude of routes and destinations to consider. At the biggest airports – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta in Georgia, O'Hare in Chicago, LAX in California, Dallas/Fort Worth in Texas and JFK in New York – you'll immediately find car hire companies, including budget car rentals, for your holiday – if you want to be safe, book your car in advance and it will welcome you directly at the airport. If you're planning on some long treks, you'll likely follow the Interstate highways. These routes include the I-80, which will take you across the country from San Francisco, California, to Teaneck, New Jersey. Famous Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica no longer exists in official form, although part of it is still marked. In any case, you can still follow this famous path and relive the glamorous days of the great American car trip. You could also limit your trip to single states and still have months of USA car journeys to choose from.

Things to do in the USA

You'll have an incredible amount of choice of destinations when you rent a car in the USA, and the great thing is that you won't be confined to a single city, state or region. Head to Las Vegas for the ultimate party trip with your friends, trying your luck in the casinos and catching legendary performers at their residency shows. Los Angeles, home to the film industry, has plenty of amazing nearby beaches you can drive to between exploring Hollywood. Miami is another popular destination, with a vibrant food scene that takes Creole and other Caribbean cuisines and fuses it with American favourites. In New York City, see iconic landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, and soak up the culture and history of this truly global destination. Chicago is another fantastic choice for lovers of culture and shopping, with the Magnificent Mile offering top department stores. USA car rental offers an unforgettable chance to see all this and more.

Important info about the USA

It's often said that the United States is more like 50 separate countries, and as you drive around on a road trip with friends or family, you'll soon see why. The traditions and cultures of each state bring to life a mix of histories and geographies. The foods of Alabama, for example, from sumptuous pulled pork to fried catfish, are a world away from the hot dogs and deep dish pizzas Chicago is known for. In fact, visiting diners and restaurants is one of the great pleasures of an American road trip. The landscapes are equally varied, ranging from the hot desert climates in southern cities such as Palm Springs to the rugged coastline of New England to the northeast.
