As it's in the Mojave Desert, Vegas is warm year round and can get hot. If you prefer milder weather, head to the city between November and February, when anything over about 20ºC is unusual. However, keep in mind that even when the thermometer hits the 30s in the height of summer, the hotels, casinos, bars and museums are well air-conditioned, as are the cars!
When you rent a car in Las Vegas, be sure to head out and see the unique local scenery. Drive around Spring Mountain toward Boulder City, where the Hoover Dam is located, or venture out to see Death Valley. You'll drive on the right in the US, and can do so with a UK driving licence. Be sure to also keep your passport, insurance and rental documents, as well as a warning triangle in the car. To rent a car in Arizona, you need to be over 25. Arizona's blood alcohol limit is 0.08 (0.05 in some other states), and this limit is strictly enforced. It's possible to make right turns at red lights as long as you check for oncoming traffic beforehand. Pedestrians always have right of way. As a general rule, the speed limit is 65mph on urban freeways and 25mph in built-up residential areas, but look out for signs. The country's well-designed roads, with big avenues and freeways connecting its districts and cities, make for very pleasant driving on your holiday.
